Our environment here in Central Otago is very unique, with extreme temperature variations across the seasons. Combined with snow and ice in the winters and long hot dry summers; these elements can very quickly take their toll on our building exteriors.
Moisture penetration, warping, cupping and splitting of timber claddings can easily occur when timber isn’t maintained and can greatly affect the performance and service life of the cladding.
By keeping up the maintenance on your property’s timber cladding you are providing it with the best protection against this deterioration and will keep your property looking amazing all year round.
The Important Part
The most important part of your Cedar Protect maintenance program is an annual wash and inspection of your timber cladding. At least once a year it is specified that your cladding is to be cleaned and the condition of the timber and associated components inspected for deterioration.
During the cleaning process our trained technicians look for factors like colour fade and loss of ability to bead water as indicators to determine whether a maintenance coat is required.
A gentle clean of the timber cladding to remove dust, dirt and environmental contaminants. These contaminants, if not removed, can provide the perfect scenario for moss and mold growth and can rapidly increase the breakdown of the timber coating.
After the wash, a full assessment of the cladding is done to highlight any issues which may need to be addressed. It can generally be assumed that a maintenance coat will be required more frequently on the most exposed wall areas of a building than those in the most sheltered.
This detailed inspection report is then provided with images of your property’s cladding recommending any maintenance that may be required, a quote is also provided to give you a clear indication of costs.
Cedar Protect also offers window cleaning and spider proofing options as part of your maintenance program. We take the hassle of having to organize these services yourself and we can make sure it is all done in the right order.
Spider proofing is hugely beneficial in the upkeep of the timber cladding as it prevents the spiders from making a mess of your property’s exterior. We strongly recommend this, as well as the professional window cleaning after the timber clean and maintenance process.
